This week is Ally Week, a national dialogue about how everyone — in and out of school — can work to become better allies to LGBT youth. From GLSEN’s 2013 National School Climate Survey, we know that schools nationwide are hostile environments for a distressing number of LGBT students – many of whom commonly hear homophobic remarks and face verbal and physical harassment and even physical assault because of their sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.
At FCTA we want to support all of our students and ensure that the educational environment is inclusive of everyone. Please check out this school climate survey and become familiar with the experiences of many LGBT students. Be on the look out every day this week for resources and strategies to help us all be better allies!
